Accelerating Literacy for Students with Autism

OUR VISION

The vision of Andrew's Gift Literacy Project is to accelerate learning, language development, communication, and positive behaviors for students with autism by partnering with classrooms to deliver evidence-based technology, high-quality resources, and expert on-site consultation.

At the individual level, we meet each student's unique needs. At the classroom level, we build teacher confidence and capacity so effective practices last long after the grant ends.

Literacy is the foundation for communication, independence, and lifelong learning. At Andrew’s Gift, we support literacy in its broadest sense — because strong skills in one area accelerate growth across all areas of a student’s development.

Our Vision

Impact

➔ Be located in Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, or York Counties

➔ Operate a self-contained classroom with >50% of students diagnosed with autism

➔ Have 3+ years of experience teaching in an autism support classroom

➔ Secure the commitment of supportive Administrative and Instructional Technology teams

➔ Currently integrate literacy instruction with students (via structured curriculum or teacher-sourced resources)

➔ Be proficient with technology and currently using available resources in the classroom

➔ Think creatively when developing individualized programming and selecting resources

➔ Be excited for collaboration with a Literacy Project Consultant to integrate resources and technology throughout the school day

Participate in regular on-site and virtual collaboration with Andrew’s Gift consultants for the full three-year grant period (approximately 40 hours in Year 1, decreasing to 30 and 20 hours in subsequent years).

Engage

Incorporate the resources provided into daily classroom routines so that students experience meaningful growth in literacy, communication, and regulation. Consultants work alongside you to identify strategies and celebrate progress.

Integrate

Report

Share student progress with the Andrew's Gift Board members via a short project summary and virtual meeting at the end of each school year. We work with our teachers to make this a supportive, straightforward process.

Sustain Impact

Funded resources, including iPads and other equipment, are provided so they can actively benefit students. If a classroom is no longer able to fully implement the resources, we ask that they be returned to Andrew’s Gift for reallocation to another autism support classroom.
